Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Light Module and what does it include?
The Light Module is the LED engine — the actual light source — for your recessed lighting installation. It includes the module itself with a built-in CCT selector switch. It does not include a housing or trim, which are sold separately or bundled in our complete recessed light kits (Canless, Remodel Can, or New Construction).
What wattage options are available?
We offer two modules: 10W for standard residential use and 15W for higher output in kitchens, offices, or larger spaces. Both are available paired with a Diffused or Anti-glare lens. The 10W is our most popular option for everyday living spaces.
How do I change the color temperature (CCT)?
The module includes a physical switch that selects between 2700K (warm white), 3000K (neutral white), and 4000K (cool white). You set it before installing the module in the ceiling. To change it later, you would need to remove the module from the housing. This is not app- or in-wall-switch-controlled.
Which beam angle should I choose?
We offer three beam angles: 36 degrees (spotlight) for accent lighting or art walls, 60 degrees (flood) for general residential use — our most popular option — and 100 degrees (wide) for broad coverage in low-ceiling spaces. If you are unsure, 60 degrees works well in most rooms.
Is the module compatible with my existing housing?
Yes. The module connects via IDEAL connector and is compatible with all Opti housings. It also works with most third-party housings — if your existing can has a different socket type, an inexpensive adapter is available separately.
Can I replace just the module if the LED fails?
Yes — that is by design. The module is a separate, swappable component. If the LED ever needs to be replaced, you swap out the module without touching the housing or trim wiring. This is a key advantage over integrated canless fixtures, where the entire unit must be replaced.
How does the module install?
Installation is tool-free. Connect the IDEAL connector from the housing to the module, then snap the module into place. If you are also installing a new housing, that gets screwed in first. Trim locks on last with a twist. No separate wiring is required at the module level.
Do I need an electrician to install this?
If your housing is already installed and wired, swapping in a new module is a DIY-friendly task requiring no electrical work. If you are installing a new housing from scratch, that initial wiring step should be performed by a licensed electrician.
Is the module dimmable?
Yes, the module is compatible with standard LED-compatible dimmers. It is engineered for smooth low-end dimming performance. For best results, use a dimmer rated for LED loads.
What is the voltage requirement?
The module operates on standard 120V household current — no special wiring or voltage converter is needed.
Does the standalone module come with a trim?
No. The standalone module is sold without trim. If you need a complete fixture, consider one of our recessed light kits — Canless, Remodel Can, or New Construction — which bundle the module with the appropriate trim and hardware.
What trims are compatible with this module?
The module is designed to work with all Opti trim options, including standard round, flangeless, and curved trims. Trim attaches to the module with a simple twist — no tools required.
